Saint Joseph Health System and Nicholas County Hospital Announce Partnership

Nicholas County Hospital (part of Johnson Mathers Health Care, Inc) today announced that Saint Joseph Health System will provide management and oversight of the hospital beginning next month. Johnson Mathers Health Care, Inc — now JMHC, Inc. is the private, not for profit organization that operates Nicholas County Hospital, located in Carlisle, approximately 35 miles northeast of Lexington, KY.

Earlier this year, Johnson Mathers engaged Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) to provide a strategic planning development process for the board of directors to help determine the future direction for the hospital and health care delivery in the community. Based on these discussions, SJHS recently submitted a proposal to the Nicholas County Hospital Board for SJHS to manage the hospital for three years. Saint Joseph Health System is not acquiring Nicholas County Hospital.

As part of the management agreement, which is effective January 1, 2011, SJHS will provide the following services:

Oversight. SJHS will provide management oversight of the hospital, including the rural health clinic known as JMHC Rural Health Clinic.

Facility Administrator and Director of Nursing. SJHS will employ a hospital administrator and nursing director to provide management services and administrative direction. All other employees of Nicholas County Hospital will remain employees of that hospital.

Nicholas County Hospital is a critical access hospital licensed for 18 beds. In addition, Nicholas County Hospital offers 24/7 emergency services, rehabilitation services, diagnostic laboratory services and outpatient diagnostic services including: Mammography; Ultrasound; CT Scan; Bone Density Studies; Stress Testing and Holter Monitoring.

Organize Your Inner Packrat

Currently, more than 1 billion electronic documents are stored across CHI. These documents would fill 50,000 standard-size bankers file boxes. If those bankers file boxes were laid end-to-end, they would stretch as far as the 12-mile-long monster iceberg that broke from Antarctica 11 years ago. If those bankers file boxes were stacked on top of one another, they would stand as tall as 304 Statues of Liberty. Watch for tips this month to de-clutter your inboxes & files to get ready for 2011.

Tip #3 Are you a packrat who saves multiple versions of electronic documents?
Review your electronic documents and delete all but the final version! Look in your home drive or shared drive, hover over the name of the document to find out when the document was created and when the last modifications were made. Save the document with the most recent date and delete the rest. From Steward—the elephant mascot of Information Technology Services

Christmas Angel Project

For the past several years, Saint Joseph – Martin has collaborated with Floyd County Department of Permanency and Protection (DPP) to be Santa for the children who are in foster care. This year the Christmas Angel tree had 135 names and all children had a Santa; 117 Santas were Saint Joseph – Martin employees! In addition to the gifts, Hasbro, Inc. provided one or two toys (according to age) for each child.

When DPP picked up the gifts at the hospital, five vehicles were needed to haul them away. Each was filled to capacity, only a space for the driver remained. As always, the children received the gifts, but Saint Joseph - Martin employees received the blessings!

Randy Carroll, plant services at SJM, and Angela Stumbo-Baldwin loaded up the vehicles with gifts.

Judy Parsons, mission leader at SJM, helped gather the enormous collection of gifts from SJM employees.
